9 Virtual Worlds

Hi all I think Second life is more suitable for schools to engage students in developing their literacy skills but schools would have to consider issues around Internet usage for students. But for libraries it can be used in educating our clients about Second life. However there is a possibility that we can use Second life in providing professional development to our clients and students i.e. Aboriginal role play . Cheers Dorothy

7 Google Books

Hi All

Google books allows people to search for books of particular interest on Google. Each book gives a brief summary about the book including bibliographic details i.e. Title, Author, date of publication, length and subject. Some books can be viewed in full due to copyright and others are limited or are shown in snippets or cannot be viewed because snippets are not available. In addition it provides information relating to scholarly publications, references, chapter titles etc...
There are links to direct you to bookstores of where you can buy the book and where you can borrow the book from libraries. I use Google books frequently especially when I cannot find the bibliographic details for a particular book on other databases to catalogue items in the library work in.

Hi All

Google maps is a great way to seach for directions. It allows people to create and share their own maps. People can use Google Chrome to make the web faster, safer and easier. It allows anyone to set the default location and they can create and add their own business on Google maps. Anyone can acces Google maps anywhere. Whereis.com.au another way of getting directions especially for those people who are not familiar with a particular place or location. It gives step by step directions on how to get from A to B.

5 Google docs

Hi all

Google docs is another form of email. Anyone can access Google docs via, internet anywhere at any time. It allows users to download files i.e. documents like spreadsheets, powerpoints etc., images / videos or use existing templates. Gives people ownership or it can be shared with others.

Hi all

I've learnt that Web 2.0 consists of web-based communities, web applications and hosted sites. It allows users, staff, those in a profession or have a particular interest to share information. It helps end users to communication via, social networking, view sites, wikis, blogs etc.
